GLOBAL DEPRESSION

GLOBAL DEPRESSION

Global Depression is a collection of Ahmet Davutoğlu’s speeches before and after September 11, in which he talks informally and without repetition. The author locates the Global Depression as the meeting of subject, collocutor and situation with intellectual depth and profound moral responsibility. Ahmet Davutoğlu’s assessments, which pivot on the axis of two major events - the Berlin Wall and the Twin Towers - consider the effects of the subsequent depression on Turkey as well as on both Western and Eastern societies.

Through spontaneous thought, natural speech and the endurance of the written word, Davutoğlu formulates possibilities and opportunities for growth that could result from global depression: If the world can achieve a synthesis of Eastern wisdom, Western rationality, the search for justice against inequality in the South and the economic productivity and efficiency of the North (it has the required accumulation for this) it will be possible to realise new levels of expansion from the global depression.
